22lr SV vs HV in 22a-1 S&W semi-auto

Anyone find a difference between standard velocity 22LR and high velocity 22LR in their model 22a-1 S&W semi's?
I have one that handles HV better than SV but am being told it shouldn't make any difference in operation of the pistol. I get a lot of stove piping if using SV (I use CCI or Blazer or Federal) I use the firearm for a lot of training of new gun owners.

Thanks

Welcome to the forum !

Any semi-auto pistol uses the recoil energy to cycle the action. Standard has less energy than HV. Some pistols work fine on SV, some need the extra boost of HV. Just depends on the gun. A new pistol may not do well with SV, but cycle it okay once it's broken in.
Sounds like recoil spring operates better with the higher pressure generated with HV. As bearcatter said it may change over time or you could look for a weaker recoil spring.

Thank you!
I have two S&W semi's model 22A-1. They are heavy guns and used to train new shooters. I get stove piping more with these two firearms than any of my other semi's (Ruger Mark III, Ruger SR22, Walther 22LR ) and suspected the SV ammo was contributing to it sometimes. Lots of folks were telling me it shouldn't make a difference. That it is probably the limp wrist of new shooters. So going forward I'll use only the HV in these firearms. Thanks again!
