Before, plain Jane Mossburg 500:

After, with Knoxx stock, Advanced Technology forend, 18 inch Mossburg replacement barrel, and side saddle. I think this will make one heck of a home defense gun.

Now to go shoot it!

Just got back from shooting the thing. I have some likes and dislikes. The dern thing kicks like a mule now. I would consider buying the recoil reducing stock instead of this un, if I had not already bought it. The recoil reducing stock is about twice the price though. Anyway, one of the best things about a Mossberg has always been the location of the safety. Well, now, with the pistol grip, it aint so easy to get to, and neither is the release for the pump. I do like the grip though. For some reason, everything I fed it shot a little high. About the only load that shot pretty close to point of aim was the 000 buck. The other barrel I have is ported, and this one is not, and I think that makes it kick (and rise) more too. I bought all of the parts from Cabelas. You can go to their website to see the price. They have free shipping on all orders over $200. All that stuff was a little less than $200, so I also bought a steel target that re-sets itself rated for up to .45.

It looks cool, but doesn't sound like it's an improvement. Me personally, I would have just put a shorter barrel on it and called it good. I do thank you for experimenting for me though. :)

Well, I think it is gonna take more than one range session for me to get used to. I think one of the things I didn't do that I should have is extend the stock! When I got back to the house and was playing around with it I extended the stock and it seemed to point more natural, and I did not have to scrunch up on the stock. I am fairly tall and long armed, and I think that might have been part of the problem.

Wiz, what loads are you using??? I've never had a 20...Mossberg, Stevens, Winch...or Ithica, have bad recoil....Let me suggest you look into getting a used Winch 1200 0r 1300 12 pump and using Aguila Mini-shells in buckshot and slugs...the Winch above are the only ones which feed reliably without modifications...they are better than a 2 3/4" reduced Rem load....and it increases your capacity to 12-14 shots....they are worth the bother of changing guns....I'll bet you'd like them....read up on 'em.....I wish they were made in 20....and I'll soon have my Winch 1300 8-shot spitting 14 times!!!!

Sheepdog, the Winchester my wife has is the Defender 12ga, which came out around 1990...it is based on the model 1300, and is a sweet shooting gun. We can shoot 00 buckshot, 2 3/4 with no ill effects ( she can shoot it from the shoulder, or from the hip, and has no problem controling it. I originally got the Mossberg for her, because it was in 20 ga....she shot 6 rounds through it and told me it kicked too hard....I tried it, she was right. Within a couple of days, she was bruised all the way from her shoulder to her elbow....my boss/friend gave her the Defender, and told her to try it.....she really liked it, so he told her to keep it. I would prefer the 20 ga for HD, which is why I'm thinking about the Knoxx....the reducted recoil system on it really makes sense when you think about the way it operates.....

BTW, I load the 500c with 2 /34" #3 buckshott......
I'll do some reading on the Aguila mini shells....thanks.....
