Any of you heard whether or not it's OK to dry fire the LCP? In the ruger manual for the P89 and the GP100 it says its fine, but there is nothing in the LCP manual. I went to the LGS to buy some snap caps just to play it safe, and they didn't have any in .380 so I will have to order them off the net. So if I have to go to all that, I might as well make sure I really need them.

Also, Is there any reason NOT to carry 6+1 as opposed to just loading a normal mag, and racking one in, and only carrying 6. With revolvers I never needed to ask this question. :D

Side note: I got my Nemesis holster in the mail yesterday...That is a SLICK little holster for the LCP.

i carry mine with 7 as well. As far as dry firing, i know KT does not recommend dry firing the P3AT.

you can make your own snap cap.
de-prime a spent case, insert a small piece of pencil eraser with some glue and sand to fit......... ;)

John are you looking to get the trigger a little better? I don't bother with mine. The DA only pull on it will always suck. I fire 1-3 magazines each visit to the range and that's it. The gun isn't made for long sessions and will only be used as a SD weapon. Therefore I'll probably never fire it outside the range. If I do it'll be real quick and real close. Just what it's made for. That's my opinion on it anyway.

It's not for improving the trigger; it's for dry fire practice...

I find that practicing drawing a gun from a holster, quickly acquiring a sight picture, and squeezing the trigger greatly improves my performance on the range (and hopefully in "real" life if I ever need to use it).

I practice drawing, sighting, and firing quite a bit, and for me, it makes a BIG difference in the speed at which I can acquire the sights.

Just don’t do it while people are watching, or they’ll call the guys with the butterfly net to hall you away. Especially as I like to yell "STOP" at the target (myself in a full length mirror). This does a couple of things, it lets the BG know that you are serious, and it helps to break the auditory exclusion and tunnel vision that can come from an adrenalin filled experience. That way if you are forced to shoot, you will me more aware of the target and beyond (don't hit the bystanders standing behind the BG) and the possibility of multiple assailants that you might not have noticed.

Deputy: I'll give that a try...Thanks for the tip. :D

Good thinking John. How do you like those sights? I can't even see them. I just point and shoot. That's how I practice at the range. 5-7 yards. I really don't think I'd want to shoot at anything beyond that with the LCP. In a SD situation beyond 21 feet may not be looked at as SD anyway. I should start carrying my Redhawk. :)

John, when the LCP first came out, the first guy to get one on the sig forum dry fired his 81 times and the firing pin broke. He contacted Ruger and sent it back, and said that Ruger told him not to be dry firing it....they didn't elaborate.....ymmv.....

I don't pack when I go to the doctors, a church, or town/state offices. I've packed going to the barber but usually don't. That doesn't include the truck as there is usually something with me.

BH is further North than I am and if you keep going hell they pull their own teeth or so it looks.

Hey speaking of barbers I found a decent one in Kingsville, TX after a couple years of too long haircuts.

Reminds me of a story about my Grandfather that moved to San Diego, California in the 50's and went to a barber and told him he wanted a haircut and didn't want to sit there all day why he cut his hair. The barber said "OK Doc". Apparently he had been a military barber as about 30 seconds later he said their "there you go" and my grandfather walked out with a basic training cut.

I pack to church. So does the old man. Especially after than incident at the synagogue in Seattle, and the church in Colorado. Think about a church from a tactical perspective. You have many, many people, including a whole lot of women and children, half asleep with their back to the door. Defensibly, it's a nightmare. No doubt the hajjis would choose that as the softest of targets.

What they don't know won't hurt YOU!!! I went to a church for 9 years...as I left and turned in my keys, I was going over a few things with the pastor....I told him about some security issues...and suggested he get one or more of the offering guys to carry....he said "Carry a gun??? At church???" I told him he'd never laid eyes on me but what I was carrying a full-sized .45---he was shocked and couldn't believe it till I showed him.....but he agreed it was a good idea...in Tx....you carry unless they've posted using the proper signs....they don't post...I don't tell...we've had a multiple killing at a "See you at the pole" prayer meeting one Wed. night..around 20 shot http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/pm ... exas17.htm ...one cop there without his gun...one across the street in his yard...came running too late...his son was there.....a church is a prime target for evil and I'd challenge everyone who carries....make the effort to carry to church...polo shirt will do it....Bible case has a side compartment that will hold a .45+ 2 clips....been there and done that...I sit near the back on a side and I am NOT half asleep.....//////don't know why the link didn't light up.......well worth the read....
