FMJ and JHP bullets

Am I correct in assuming that you still put a taper crimp on jacketed bullets? I have only loaded lead, but am going to order something for defensive loads.....

for autos, i only taper crimp

for single shots and revolvers, if the bullet has a crimp grove---i roll crimp on moderate to heavy loads and don't bother to crimp at all on light 38's.........
