Got some 45 Colt bullets

I got 500 200 grain RNFP bullets. The pic is of the side of the box. Can anyone suggest a load using Unique? What about the bullets? They'll work, yes? :?

My Lee manual doesn't show a load for lead....only jacketed.... same with the Alliant website......
Well what the hey? :?
There has to be a load using Unique. You can load anything with Unique. It's magical. :geek:

I can use the same dies I use for my 45 acp rounds right? :?
Lee lists dies for both .45acp and .45 Colt. Different product #'s....so, I don't think you can.....
Damn! I figured I could if I adjusted the dies. Shows what I know. :? :|
I could give You the advice a co-worker gave Me one time. I had just bought the .270, & knew He had one also. So I asked Him about what He shot out of His. He said, Oh, I'll bring You some in ! :D When I asked again what He loaded for it, He says," I just dip the cases full of 4350 & seat a 130 Gr. bullet in them" ! :? I said "No, No, No" You keep Yours, I have cases, I'll load My own, but thanks anyway !

I wonder what the pressure would be with a full case of Unique ?!!?

I don't know, but I wouldn't shoot it.....
I just ordered the 4 die set from Lee. Should be here in about a week. So you guys think I should just fill the case up huh? Good idea. :)
BH, shop around....Midway and Natchez sells the 4-die sets cheaper than Lee.....
D'oh! I bought my 45 acp dies there too. At the time it was the cheapest I could find. See what impatience gets me? :|
for the 45 colt unique loads on that bullet
startin' load 7.5 grains for roughly 786 fps out of a 5.5" barrel
top end load 9 grains for roughly 927 fps
this was under the cowboy section of the below listed site

got the data from here http://www.ssrsi.org/sr1/Weapon/reload.htm
you wind up down loadin' it and save to open up

charges came from the alliant down load section page #45---its a scan copy of an older manual
My Speer Manual lists their 200gr. LSWC at 8.0-9.5grs. of Unique (896-1061fps.) & My Lyman Pistol & Revolver Manual lists their #452460 Lead (#2 Alloy?) 200gr. SWC at 8.6-9.6grs. of Unique (918-1083fps.) Hope this helps not the same style bullets but should get you in the ballpark. I also suggest getting a subsciption to loaddata.com its about $30.00 per year but they have litterally hundreds of thousands of loads on there.
Thanks guys! I'm thinking around 8-8.5 grains should do the trick. :D
Speer Manual shows 8.0 to 9.5 gr of Unique for a 200 gr LSWC. 896-1061 fps. 8.5 gr should be a good load.

From what on the side of the box they look fine I run one through the calipers to see if it's .452 and throw it on the scale just for s&g.
Good idea Terry. If they're marked right I'll be in business. :)

55 gr of IMR 4350 is max so he probably had the pressure spiked up there pretty high as it doesn't show as a compressed load. Whats another 5 to 10 grains among friends? Hey go all the way and pop a mag primer in while he's at it.

A full case of Unique in a 45 Colt would do that old dance called the topstrap roll or the cylinder blast.

I went to a reloading seminar once at a local retailer and the clown giving the class brought in a Super Blackhawk that he had blown the top of the cylinder clean out of it but the topstrap although bent held. He had left powder in the dispenser and forgot what it was and assumed it was a lot slower burning that it really was. I saw that and figured there wasn't much I could learn from him as from day one I learned to clean out the dispenser and put away the powder when I finished with the load.
I found this one on Loaddata.com, its Oregon Trail Handgun Data:
200gr. RNFP start-6.8gr. Unique Vel.-721fps. / max-7.8gr. Unique Vel.-835fps.
Firearm was a 4 3/4" Vaquero.

Sounds like a Cowboy load to me but thought it matched your Bullet better.
Got to agree it sounds like a cowboy load and at the low end might leave a little lead in the bore with those hard cast bullets.
