I make most my bullet molds . If you have a lathe with 4 jaw chuck you can make your
own molds . I start out with a old mold 30 cal and punch it out to a 40 cal . Put the mold
in 4 jaw and dial in center , drill it then cut ogive and cut grease groves , true up face and
it good to go . Tooling you can make real easy , they are like a inside thread cutting tools
and remenber I'm a self taught gunsmith and machinist . So if I can do it you can too.

You're pretty self sufficient. Way to go.
Go to gun show and buy a junk mold for $10 and recut it to a
custom . Remember Lyman and RCBS have super steel for there
molds . In rifle lathe cut mold are the only way to go . The tools
are good for opening a mold up also for custom fit in pistols .

Great feeling of satisfaction to do something productive with your hands and see the finished product....I've got a bathroom ripped out to the studs and rewiring, replumbing, setting new shower, toilet, sink, insul, sheet rock, exh. fan, texture, paint, and tile floor...moving the door and putting in new 36" door...reckon when it's done, I'll be happy...everyone here can do something with their hands and enjoy the product...or use it to give others joy...from a homemade bullet to a home-baked pie...now there's an idea.....

I have a Lee mold#C429-240-SWC. I want a 300gr RNFP. No GC bullet in .429 OR .452.
Can you convert that?
You can recut the nose and remove GC only . You need a mold
38 and smaller to do it right . .429 to .452 I think it's too tight .
Alum mold I don't like to recut .

Removing that much material should put me I would guess at 280-290gr. I like the idea. Just wonder if I'll get some lead problems with no CG? Could you cut out the GC but leave enough to form a third lube groove?

Extra lube groove won't stop leading . I can shoot to 1450 fps with a 25 to 1 mix over that a
GC will be needed . The band you cut GC off need to be around .125 to .200 . I like the bullet
.001 over bore and cyl throat the same . If I have a .429 barrel , I like bullet to cast .430 and
run it in a .431 lube sizer . In my cast bullet guns I never and I mean never shoot a jacket or
gas check bullet in it . Take over 1000 rounds to brake a barrel in for lead . I can shoot a
SASS match come home and run a patch and cleaner only and once in a blue moon a brush will
be needed to clean bore . And 1 jacket bullet will screw up the works .

Ok let me see if I got this straight. Your saying I could cut the GC out & with a 25-1 mix I should get lead problems if I stay below 1450fps? :?

NO , I said I can . I built my son a rifle same cal , reamer , bullets , lube , barrel and shooting
in the same match he would get a little leading in around 30 rounds and I could go almost 100
rounds before I seen any . The bullet must fit the gun , powder , lube and primer all must be
correct . I use Unique up 1000 fps and IMR4227 over 1000 fps and Fed standard primers , I
have 3 different lubes for smokeless powder . There no magic loads ,what worked in my gun
wouldn't work in my sons gun even they were the same . Plain base need alot work to keep
from leading . Gas check are alot easyer work with . I have around 75 molds only 1 is GC .

YES , A piece of brass round stock and valve grinding compound . The mold is got
to be rock solid or it will egg shape [ no cross feed vice ] and do it in 2 steps is
the best way , 1st pass .004 small then the size you want . Now this is on a steel
mold I never worked on a alum one .
