I was looking for a good holster for my 6" GP100. I have a cheap Nylon holster that I use when I don't have the red dot on the gun. It works OK at best, and is not the most comfortable. So I decided to plunk down some money on a "real" holster. I talked to Rob at Simpley Rugged Holsters last night (In Alaska) and ordered a 3 slot Sourdough Holster.

They look like this.

This is the description from his Web site...

The Sourdough - The Sourdough Pancake™ is made from 8-10 oz. steer shoulder. This rugged field or concealment holster is tightly molded to gun, it does not require a thumb strap for retention. The gun is positioned so that the back of the trigger guard is exposed, ensuring a good grip every time you reach for your pistol. Available for most 2-8.5" revolvers; The Judge, S&W K, L, N , X Redhawk Alaskan etc. This is our most popular and versatile holster. We make it in a variety of barrel lengths to fit your pistol. Everything from 2.5” S&W Night Guards to 8 3/8 S&W X frames. This is the most popular holster for the Taurus Judge and Ruger Redhawks and Super Redhawk Alaskan. This design securely holds the revolver with the opposing tension of the off set belt loops and the hand molding of the holster to the revolver's contours. This is the holster that Rob carries his pistols in while hunting and fishing here in Alaska.

They're very nice holsters. I've never heard anything bad about them or Rob. I believe he posts at rugerforum.com. I will probably end up getting one for my Redhawk. Maybe even my new BH. What color did you go with? I like the wine colored leather.

I went with dark brown. I figured $70 including shipping wasn't too bad for a custom holster...especially with what a decent off the rack holster costs.

The only problem is the 2-8 week wait...I am not a patient person by nature.

I have one of his holsters, the one you are looking, no complaints, it’s a good one :)

John, is that for carrying concealed? Why are there 3 loops? A belt can only go through two. I know I'm not 'getting it' as usual.

If you use the two bottom ones it'll carry straight. If you use one bottom one and the top on the other side it'll carry cross draw. Two in one deal. :)

Thanks Shawn. What is cross draw?

It's when the holster is slanted and on the opposite side of your strong side. I wear a cross draw on my left side and draw with my right hand. I reach across the body and therefore it's called a cross draw. See how the holster on this belt sits? It's a right hand cross draw.

  Your humor is like Richard's. I married him and now I'm done. He leads the way and I follow in the dark usually muttering something under my breath which he ignores.

Those sourdoughs look like the Roy Bakers' I carried in the 70s-pancake and simple and fast....no fumble, snap, untie, or comboniation locks to fart around with...I loved best to carry my Charter .44 Bulldog crossdraw in one....I like pancake holsters real well.....
