Well Natalie, it can't be both ways in the wilds. If a bear attacks, there is nothing left to do but defend yourself, and that cub is old enough to fend for itself. You can not outrun these bears, as they cover 100 ft in 3 seconds and can outrun a race house in the 1/4 mile.
It was very sad that the sow bear had to be dispatched because of her charge. But I do not believe that this was going to be a bluff charge to just run them off. At 8 yrds, that is some serious footage to danger and great bodily harm, as I would have let her have it as well.
I couldn't figure out what the other two guys were doing. At 8 yards I thought there would have been at least two if not three shots. Good thing for him he shot well under pressure as he wouldn't gotten a second chance.
