Took the LCP out to the range! Really fun gun. But definitely NOT a toy!!

I went through a lot of ammo, many different kinds, I had several partial boxes and three magazines so I was just throwing lead at paper really fast. Fun.

Shot 7 and 10 yards, handful of bullseyes but everything else is just on the paper. No real pattern, but I did come away feeling like I can shoot it, comfortably, and hit what I'm aiming at confidently at 10 yards. Serves its purpose.

One concern: I had several FTF on the last round of the magazine, where the slide didn't go all the way forward but stopped a half inch short or so. Easily cleared, but I didn't like it. My only other semi auto is my SR9 and it has never, ever done that.

But, encouragingly, it only happened on target ammo. The good stuff - and I tried a few like Hornady and Golden Sabre, no problems whatsoever.

The Plan: I'm going to choose a quality carry round, buy a 150 rounds, shoot all but 20 of it, making sure I'm not the cause of the FTF problems and making sure it feeds reliably. Then I'll clean the gun, load my three mags, put one in the chamber, find a holster solution and start walking around with this little cricket!

I have found out a couple of things with my LCP...

One is they like to be clean...were you having more of the FTF problems as the gun got dirtier?

Also, becuse this gun is so small, it is very easy to limp wrist.

I'm glad you like it though, it's a nasty little surprise.

John it did happen more as it got dirty. I probably shot 150 rounds through it, but a lot of it was cheap 'n' dirty stuff.

I think I was prepared for a worse bite than it had, thanks to all the warnings here. But while that first round was surprising, once I found a comfortable hand position I was able to shoot it pretty comfortably.

thinking....Ruger could mop up with a kit that had a .22 barrel and mag...firing pin could be worked out...cheap practice and an alternative caliber...pity they don't listen to their public...

Glad you liked it, Eddie. I think they make great little self defense guns. They are so easy to hide that I take mine every where. I think the jamming may be from the gun getting dirty. It must have gotten warm too. I never put that many thru mine at one time. I shoot about 2-3 magazines at a time, just to keep practiced.

Well, it had been a while since I had been to the range. And forever since I've shot a semi-auto, thanks to Ruger. I was enjoying shooting fast and furious!

I don't know if it would or not...it's fairly smooth as it is...I think it's just short and has a sharp angle. There really is just no room in that little gun to put a longer feed ramp in. That and the slide rails are so close to the chamber they are bound to get carboned up faster.

I guess I have never run that many rounds through it in one setting...I think when I first got it I ran about 50, and it was DIRTY when I got done.

Sheepdog, I think that the LCP is perfect for what it was built for. It's made to hide nice and shoot quick. It'll do both without fail. Getting used to shooting a little gun is weird, but once you do, it'll group pretty nice out to about 10 yards. At normal self defense distances, say 5-10 feet, it would stop someone very quick I think. I carry it with 7 and an extra magazine. I don't feel outgunned at all. Ruger has a done a very good thing with the LCP!
