I found out some more history on the Remington. Seems that my uncle re-finished that stock when he was in high school. I had a feeling somebody had, but since the owner of the rifle is no longer with us, nobody really knew who or when until I talked to him about it. I may have been the first one to un-case the thing since before I was born. He was going to re-blue it, but was shipped off to Lackland instead. So now that will be my project. Making this rifle restoration take a shade under thirty years. But it will be an excellent piece of the family history for the next generation, whoever they are.
