I have a choice to make. I was looking at new carry pieces, for summer wear/to loan to the ball and chain, and narrowed it down to two. Cost is equal, both 9mm

Kel-Tec PF9 - smaller of the bunch
Taurus PT-111 - bit bigger

Anybody have recommendations? I am leaning towards the Taurus, but the salesman kept pushing the Kel-Tec. Said many LEO's were carrying them as back-up pieces. For some odd reason I have trouble with potentially trusting my life to a Kel-Tec, but cannot tell you why exactly. Some odd paranoia.

They also worked on the LCP angle, but I explained to them that I will never buy a Ruger new. Ever.

RP, my BIL has a PT-111...I've shot it, and I like it. It will shoot fmj, lrn, hp's, you name it. If I didn't have the Kahr CW9, I would probably get the PT-111.....one word of advice, though....if you purchase extra mags, DO NOT buy ProMags....he got two, and they both failed to feed, and locked the gun up.....had to end up ordering extra mags from Taurus....had them in about 4 days.....

I had a Kel-Tec PF9. With less than 300 rounds through it, the trigger stopped working. The trigger return spring popped off of the trigger bar and rendered the gun useless. In Kel-Tec's defense, they did refund my purchase price, less tax. Go with the Taurus. I have never had a major problem with Taurus.

I noticed those while looking through the suppliers catalogs today. One thing I really liked about that PT111 was the $350 price. Plus I actually held it in my hands. There aren't enough gun stores here and their inventory tends to be pretty slim, so hands-on experience with the weapon is rare.

Sounds like we all are on the same page. I will probably be going back for that Taurus next week. Hate to rush into a purchase. If I am still thinking about it in seven days, it will be mine. Thanks for all your input.

Oh yeah, that dealer stocks Hi-Points too.......

I'd have to say the taurus as well. KT's are good if you plan on throwing them at the BG, along with a pocket of rocks.

Velvalco, I know it's not on your list, but I'd highly recommend you look at the Springfield XD9 subcompact. You could find a decent used one for the cost of a new PT111. I'm not here to bash Taurus, but the XD is a superior gun. And don't be afraid of the Kel-Tec. Especially newer ones.

of the two guns mentioned, i have no first hand experience but from what i have read, i probably would pass on both.

What i have had experience with is the kel-tec p-11 and i believe it to be a fine weapon that i would have faith in and splits the difference in size between the two----if ya can master the trigger.

my concerns about the pf-9 is that it is still a relative new design and the reported teethin' problems that it has had-----but i also read of very positive reports on kel-tec customer service.

the taurus p-111 has been "spotty" from what i've read, but also have been readin' a lot of negatives when it comes to taurus customer service.

again, of the two guns you mentioned, i have no first hand experience. ..........

I have a PF-9 and have had PT111's. I much prefer the PT145 to the 111.
The PF-9 had some problems but have been out for long enough, they seem to be ok.
I carry a KT when I need small. I have faith in them. And I agree, from 1st hand experience that CS at Taurus is a crap shoot.
