Our local shop has a new Ruger P89 with 2 10rnd mags for $379. If I get it, I will add probably add 4 or 5 15rnd mags. Is that price about right for the P89. Also, is the P89 a good gun? The only Ruger semiauto I've ever had is the 22/45 and the 10/22. Would appreciate you guy chiming in, cause Mama said I could get it tomorrow if I want it.

What model Wizard, decock or saftey is it blue or stainless?

If it's a stainless decock, I'd say jump on it as those are getting hard to find. But for anything else, I'd let it pass. I bought my stainless saftey model for $325.00 (with four 15 round mags) and I think I paid what it's worth. That being said...

I really like my P89...the gun is built like a cinder block, no frills all function. And it's tough enough that if you runt out of ammo (The P89 has ate anything I've put through it) and the BG is still coming at you, you can beat the snot out of him with it.

The factory grips were the only thing I didn't like, I thought they were slippery, so I put a set of Houges on it, and that cleared that up. It's heavy enough that it tames the stoutest of 9mm loads.

EDIT:

I just went to Gun Broker, and it seems that they are asking between $375 and $400 for stainless models, I don't know if they're getting that much, but that's what they're asking.

for a new one, the price sounds to be very good and competitive with academy sports

There are better choices for ccw and for the shooting games such as idpa......
But for an affordable range/field/battle/home gun that thumbs it's nose at the gun grabbers with its high capacity mags, durability, strength, and ease of maintaince for the long haul-----its awful hard to beat.............

For a stainless decocker, I'd give as high as 400....I wonder how new it is with 10-rd clips....does it have a lock on it? Good find...for the magazines for my KP95DC, I got factory stainless...about 37 each...but you might want to get Mecgar.....17-round chrome for around that or less.......Mecgar's a fine product and makes factory mags for a lot of companies....gives you 18 to grab....The P89 in stainless decock is like the P90 the same ....ultra-reliable, easily concealable, and built like Betty Grable...was.....

Sheepdog Mecgar is making the LCP mags.

If there good enough for Ruger factory, they're good enough for me.

I bought a stainless 15 rounder for my P89 from Ruger's web site. They're not cheap, but they are built stout. That mag spring is TOUGH!

They also had the KP95DC in blue for $389 or $399 (can't remember which). I'm going to pick up the P89 in the morning, will have to wait a few weeks on some extra mags, but, that's ok...... :D

John, I've had Brng Hi-Power...mag loading no problem...S&W M59....ditto....my used KP95DC---two new Ruger mags...I almost cried it hurt my poor paws so bad...I ordered a mag loading tool from Ruger...helped some but those springs are tougher than a WM's nosehairs!!!

Well, it didn't happen....went to the shop this morning, and the $379 was one with a safety. They had one with a decocker...used, scratched up and wanted $399 for it....I said no thanks.....I did get to handle an XD9 4" this morning at a different shop...they wanted $600...the other shop can order me one for $526.81 otd. I really liked the feel of the XD9, and 16+1 aint bad.....I realize now the XD I didn't like was just the sub-compact.....

Plan to order the XD in two or three weeks.....

Wizard, the P89 is a great range gun. Very accurate and heavy. I agree with JGBoom, they are better with the Hogue grips. I think the price is fine on the new one. I sold a used one that was mint (SS DC) for $325 w/ 2 10's and case. So you can find some for less if you keep looking.

But the XD's are also nice. Plus the XD's can be carried all day.

Thanks, John...it's funny, I was over at a friends house late yesterday, and asked me to take his P95 to the range and see how it shoots for me. He said he can't hit anything with it. When he showed me the way he holds a handgun, it's no wonder. I tried to show him a good modified Weaver stance, but I don't think he got it....will have to take him to the range a few times....anyways, I get to try the P95..... :D

Wiz, you know I'm gonna do this...my boy (15) shot my sister's P95 and nailed everything he shot at...loved it...I bought him/me a KP95DC....and soon after bought me a KP97DC...we shot both of them about a month ago....and he loved the 97 most....now I'm looking for one for him.....when you lay the two on each other, you get about 1/2" more length in the .45, whether in the P97 or P90, a tiny bit heavier loaded...and it's a pussycat to shoot.....for man, woman, or child....just thought I'd throw that in...course, if you had a broken ankle, I'd find some way to bring up the .45.....or a bad cold...or a nagging mother-in-law......

Your comments are more than welcome, Sheepdog. To tell you the truth, I still trying to decide....I really like the feel of the XD...but, I want this gun to be more than just for games...I also want it to be a go-to gun at home....I really am trying to decide between 9mm and .45. I have always loved a .45acp, and I have the dies for reloading already...would just have to order the bullets. If I could afford both, it would be a no brainer....but this go-round, it's gonna have to be one or the other....both will work, but each will be better, for a different reason.....

My thought was, with his superior (to mine) accuracy and high capacity...the 9 would be better for him....but he told me he'd feel much more confident with the .45 and a few shots than the 9 and lots more...I guess I've indoctrinated the boy well....the .45's easier to shoot...doesn't snap back..pushes...most I've let shoot it are surprised at how much easier it is to shoot well...it's not the bear it's shucked up to be....even for a small woman, no problem....I'd trade the 9mm for a .45 in a heartbeat...
If you go XD, the full-sized, midsized, or even the short grip with the magazine extender will fit your hand about as well as the 9...how they got that marvy grip to hold 13 rounds, I don't know, but it feels great in my hands...and a Glock 21 or Para Hi-cap do not fit me at all....XD has done good things...I just don't like the new ones with ext. safety...I'd be lookin' for a used one...I haven't had the opportunity to shoot the XD .45 yet....but because of the trigger type, it'd have to be in a hard holster...I'd not carry it IWB on my belly for sure...if I found another KP97DC beside the XD....same price...I'd go with the 97...
