I reload 223 rem for a Savage model 11, 22" heavy barrel. I am always on the lookout for info on bullet and powder combinations that work well in a bolt gun. If anyone reloads and has a "go to" load, I would be interested in hearing about it.
I have a Savage Model 11 "Hog Hunter" with a 20" barrel.
LC09 Brass
CCI 400 Primers
Hornady 55 gr Vmax Bullets
IMR 8208 XBR 24.5 grains
This load shoots great in this rifle. It also shoots well in my RRA AR15 20" bull barrel and my Mossberg MVP 24" Varmint Model.
My next favorite load is:
LC09 or Federal Brass
CCI 400 Primers
Hornady 60 gr Vmax Bullets
IMR 8208 XBR 22.5 grains
This load also shoots well in all 3 rifles.
The are not maximum fire breathing loads and should be safe in any rifle in good condition. They all shoot sub-moa 3-shot groups in all 3 rifles.
