Do you guys think the new Ruger Compact Magnums will catch on or not? I kind of feel like we have so many cartridges now that anything new that does not offer some sort of major advantage over what we already have is not going to do real well. Now, the .204 Ruger seems to have caught on real well, but the .480 Ruger seems to have tanked. I would say because the .204 offered something somewhat new, a .20 caliber bullets going upwards of 4000 fps, while it is my understanding that the .480 is a .475 Linebaugh "lite". I know I have gotten somewhat off subject, but I just used these two cartridges as examples. To me the new Ruger Compact Magnums do not really offer any major advantages.

I don't think they will...what's the point, there are to many great rounds out there already. Yeah, I'm sure some will buy it just because it's the lastest and greatest, but for it to become a shooting "regular" would really surprise me.

I think that when companies run out of ideas for new guns, they come up with new cartridges. There are way too many out there right now. We don't need most of them imo.

i think it will go the way of the remington "ultra-mags", and the winchester "short mags" and "super short mags"-----just re-inventin' the wheel with a new package and label to generate a few sales.......

if ruger wnats to increase sales, take that r&d expertise and money and put it back into the product lines. increase quality control and slick up the guns and offer sensible cartridges.

Nope...but there're too many of us crying for new models(ie. 5-shot .44Spl snubs...) feeding current rounds to keep creating new "wonderbullets"....they're hoping to sell more guns....let them give us what we're crying for and they'll sell more guns than by shoving a new beast down our throats....but they'd have to listen...I'll let Ruger rest a minute....look at Taurus...came out with a fine line of .44Spl snubs...then dropped them...just as CCW took off and covered the whole country...how many million could they sell but they're off into all kinds of superblasters and another line of .17 in every possible variation....they just don't listen to the shooters...if the NRA were to take a poll and just ask us all...and the gun companies would build them for us...gun sales would skyrocket...I give Smith credit for answering our needs far better than any other company these days....
