It's noteworthy because I know exactly where he was. I grew up a few towns over, and used to go to that grocery store. Only at the time it was a driving range. My entire family has a rule about going to that area after dark (do not, and that includes me) and going there in the daylight (we all have permits, we all are to use them. And if at all possible, do not go there without me). I can understand wanting to have a weapon, as I do not go near there without at least one, sometimes two. It used to be a sort of okay place, but thanks to recent efforts at something, it has turned into Mogadishu.

He has an unpleasant conversation with an uninformed policeman. I am familiar with the dept. in question, they are retreaded. And what conclusion does he come to? "I wish I had grounds for a lawsuit." That is going to make gun owners look good....let's be the next group to claim victim status and abuse the court system. Always a good way to gather some good will and compassion.

Just wanted to share this. I was doing some last minute research. A close friend who works in Congress is on his way over here, and I want to discuss the idea of a statewide open carry ban before these assholes bring us into California or Hawaii gun law.

While you're at it why don't you look into taking guns away from those nasty hunters too? They mess up the woods and anger PETA. We don't want that do we? People will look down on us and take away our guns.

Seriously, if you have a problem with open carry, don't do it. Don't sit back and cause problems for people who do. People who don't want us to have guns at all do the same shit. OC isn't going to change the minds of anti-gunners. They already have their minds made up. This whole idea of, I don't like it so no one should do it, shit really pisses me off.

Don't take this personally RP, but I feel I have to speak up on this.

+1....my rights end where his nose begins...so what if he wants to do it differently...if I don't help him excercise his rights...what's gonna happen when I'm the target??? Rights are rights...agree or disagree...don't give legislators the idea we're divided, or we'll have hell to pay....

if open carry comes to be in Texas, it will be extremely "awkard" for a short time as folks and officers get accustomed to it.

its not gonna be a smooth easy over-nite transition.
Concealed carry had its problems at first but it is now accepted by everyone. But the advantage of concealed is 99% of the public don't see the gun. And generally, the uneducated, "cry panic" non-gun public are the ones who will cause trouble and make the call to the leo.

heck i remember receiving a call from someone passin' thru who was "alarmed" by the presence of gun racks in pickups-------had to inform them that's just part of life around here.......

i agree, the law suit mentality should be a last resort.........it would cast gun owners in a bad light if all of a sudden we all appeared to be "sue happy" as we have fought a good and clean fight for a lot of years and have cried foul about lawsuits against the gun industry and fought for castle doctrines to proctect us from suits................

open carry will be an on-going educational process. The gun owner knows his rights right off the bat. But the rest of the public will be confused cause for years it "ain't that way" and the leo will be in the middle trying to get educated himself.............

I want the surprise...not the attention....only plus I can see in Tx getting open carry is if it is written to stop the punitive action if a coat rides up or shirt flies up on a CCW permit holder...and it may not be written that way...with open carry, it seems that there would be no more need to punish those who printed or accidently displayed....but I can't see myself carrying in town...unless all hell breaks loose, in which I will be carrying openly anyways...you and I will BE the local law enforcement...the sworn officers will be busy defending the government and will be needing all the help they can get....I can't see "setting up" situations to force LEOs to act, provoking something, then suing either for money or to make a point...that's not what responsible gun owners would do.....now, if an open carry citizen was minding his own business, acting within the letter and spirit of the law, and was misused by authorities who knew better and were just being oppressive...or by private business owners who did wrong...then I'd support him in using the legal process in getting it stopped and changed for the right.....

Bottom line for me....concealed carry gives me the best advantage against evil, and causes me and LEOs and other citizens much less concern....and that's my choice....requires a bit more diligence...sometimes a bit uncomfortable...but that's the way I can serve my country and my fellow man...I don't mind at all....

I too CCW. But taking away any gun rights is, imo, just stupid. Once that right is gone, which one's next? Gun owners fighting against gun owners is just retarded. As I stated above, if you don't want to do it, don't. But don't tell me I can't. I hate that attitude.

I don't go to church. I don't believe in organized religion. I will never tell you not to go. Instead I will mind my own business and let you live your life since you aren't hurting anybody by doing it. I do not believe that OC harms us in any way. Just the opposite.

This topic really touches a nerve with me.

been reading this morning on the OC effort in Tx....I'll bet we'll get it next session....our pro-gun Gov. has already said there ought to be no place that a checked-out CCW permit holder can't carry....it IS a deterrent....the more we have nailed down and carefully defined what our rights are...the harder it will be for them to take them from us.....they work like termites...if we aren't vigilant....one bite at a time, they'll eat our rights...and we might not notice till it's too late....liberal, controlling gov't works like this...we'll take an inch....if you don't scream bloody murder, we'll take another, then a foot...if we don't get slapped for that....and so it goes....they need to know we're watching, we will not stand for it, and they will pay a price if they try it....

i as well have no problem with lawful carry........
just pointing out that should open carry come to Texas, there will be initial stumbles and stutters
on the part of everyone and screamin' lawsuit on it right out the gate ain't gonna help.

it's like being in a dark room and suddenly the bright lights come on---gonna take a
bit of time and head turnin', eye squintin' and head shakin' to get adjusted
to it on everyone's part.........and that is the non-carrying public, leo, and the
gun owners.........it was that way with concealed carry at the start.............and should
open carry come to Texas it will be the same way---if not more "teething" due to
the reactions and lack of education on the part of the non-gun public...........

The laws usually are complicated on the do's and don'ts with some intrepertation left in.
and down here, the law is up-dated every two years.................

if everyone would use common sense then there would be no problem---------but, then again, it is a mcain or obama year........................

I completely understand what you're saying, Deputy. There will be concerns at first. There will be the calls to the cops. There will be people mouthing off about it. Then there will be no problems because of it and people will shut up, and people will not snap their necks turning to look, and it will be just one more thing that is an everyday thing. This is what we want in the end. I would personally like to see OC practiced by every law abiding citizen in the country. I'd feel safe and I bet there wouldn't be anymore mass shootings.

Man, that one thing right there makes it worth all the "inconvenience" it might cause!!! Israel arms/trains about 15% of its adult citizens and they MUST carry...usually concealed...a prospective terrorist never knows who...and we'll never know the lives it saves.....I'd like to see the CCW licenses here say MUST carry...that alone would triple the number of guns in the crowd next time some weasel wants to go out in a blaze......

I do carry concealed, because that is the norm around here, & I kind of like the element of surprise anyway.

But if I've been in the field, & have one of My revolvers on My hip, & want to stop for gas, a snack, or a quick trip into a store, I don't take it off ! I'll put My shirttail out over it or My jacket, but if it still shows, that's OK too. No one around here becomes too alarmed. There is a lot of farmland around here, & a lot of Hunters running around, nearly any time of the year. :D

Not sure I completely understand your post. Are you in favor of the ban or looking to head it off? If you want the ban as a way to slow down the antigunners, then that has never worked. They take that and consider it a step closer to their ultimate goal. If it does anything it will energize them.

Something I've often thought about ! If I walk into a place, with mayhem on My mind, & see Your open carry on your hip !! Guess who tops the list, as My first target ?!!? I think I'd personally prefer no one know I am armed.

Maybe. But if you walk in and see me and Sheepdog and Bountyhunter with our open carry on our hip, my guess is your first target will be elsewhere!
