I caught the 45 ACP disease as well and I'm looking to feed the beast with a Springfield XD service. I was orginally looking at a compact figuring I could carry but after seeing one up close decided my SP101 is still my carry piece. The XD is striker fired so don't know if that suits your needs or not.

Then do yourself a favor and look into the XD series. My XD-45 is fantastic! The girlfriend's XD-9 is just as great! I really don't think you can go wrong with an XD. :D

KP97DC would be great for you....the grip fits my 15-year-old well...ultra-reliable...not a showpiece but about half the price of a Sig....which I'd like one of with the new trigger style...someday....KP90DC seems to be for bigger hands....never measured them but seems bigger to me...but not too big.....

ruger kp90 is still top notch and probably the most affordable quality da/sa in 45 out there.

i have also messed with the taurus pt 945. this is a compact metal frame da/sa 45 that can be carried hammer down or cocked and locked. The feller that owned this one took old GI 1911 mags and cut a new notch in them and they worked fine in the gun----much cheaper than buying the factory mags plus they would still work in his 1911... The da stroke was a bit heavy. I've thought about this one for ccw.............still might when i get caught up on other projects.

lots of used smith 4506's and their variants out there but that is either a love or hate relationship.

the most accurate da/sa 45 that i know of is probably the CZ 97. it is big......it is heavy....and the da stroke is hard for me to reach with my medium hands,,,,,,,but the sa is sweet and she is plenty accurate. its a dbl stack 45 so large hands help.......

Seconded on the XDs. Shawn and I have the same gun and the XD Tacs are extremely well made, well balanced and rugged pistols. Taurus has also just released their 24/7 OSS model. I plan on picking up one of these soon as well. :D

I'll be honest, the XD just didn't feel right in my hand....don't know why....maybe it's that thing on the trigger....but, I have been thinking about the Taurus OSS. I had tried out a model 145, but, for the life of me, I could not press the mag release button without changing grip. It might have been that particular gun....don't know.....

Ruger P345 is a great, inexpensive .45. Mine really makes me want to get more ruger autos. (P90 and P97) Haven't shot an Xd yet, but many like it. I agree with deputy, Cz is top notch and a must have for a range or competition pistol. I wouldn't want to carry it daily, but they are a super fun gun.

Practically, it's difficult not to focus on the P-90. Perhaps not the "prettiest girl on the stage" but certainly reliable and affordable. Only thing I have never understood is why in th' heck Ruger would not/could not use 1911 magazines. I'd think that had the P-90 used that type of magazine, sales would've darn near doubled. Oh well...go with th' P-90 anyway....
