Planning a big shooting trip with my brothers for my birthday this weekend. So what do I do three days before the shoot? I turn my left thumb into hamburger with a full power swing of my hammer. I was aiming for the 16penny nail, but hit my thumbnail instead. I was planning on proving to my brother, who is a State trooper, that I could shoot six pop cans with my Vaquero as fast as he could with his duty auto. He is probably going to say I did it on purpose in order to save face. I am pretty sure I could beat him, but it will have to wait for another day.

So, b.roberts, you hold with the right hand and cock with the left thumb? Or are you lefty when you shoot....I've seen those who can shoot fast with the SA....but I'm in no danger of becoming one...I empathize with you about the thumb....one summer hanging vinyl siding off a tall ladder, I musta smashed my right thumb 50 times...it was so bad it was funny...sorta....I finally got the message and got out of that work...in carpentry, I don't do it...I start the nail by holding the nail between two fingers pointed palm towards me...for some reason you don't smash yourself that way...I've still got scar tissue coming out from under that nail...and that was 26 years ago....

B.Robert, I feel your pain....I have a match this weekend, and during the course of loading 500 rounds of 9mm last Monday, I ended up sprining my wrist.....gonna be fun, shooting a match with a brace on my wrist.....may just shoot it left handed.....

Yep - I can be sympathic too. I was planning on a target session this weekend and yesterday one of my helpers was screwing in an A/C grill while I held it in place and he slipped with the screw gun and went halfway through the meat of my thumb with the phillips bit. It's throbbing now as I write. And swollen up something fierce!
Might have to be a 22 kind of day, with the Mark and 10-22's.

Thanks for the sympathy guys. I can still shoot and I can still hit the target. I just can't shoot a sa revolver quickly. I am right handed. I typically hold the gun in both hands and cock with my left thumb. That won't work too well with my thumb twice its normal size. It is a pretty quick way to shoot a sa accurately. Tried fanning once. A large red barn would have been pretty safe if I had tried to shoot it that way. Seen others do it and I am envious of their ability.
Hope your hand heals well Jimbo1096.

If you can't shoot faster then shoot more accurately and then razz his ass about being a cop that can't shoot straight. Sometimes you have to pick a different battle just don't let on until you're done.
