Picked up a Taurus M85 Ultra Lite Titanium, .38 w/2in barrel at a gun show a couple of months ago. Just bought it and didn't know anything about the guns and later figured I may have paid too much. Looked in Fjestad's and almost chocked when I realized what a great deal I got.
Took it out and learned real quick why the price was so low. Gun would fire one round and the cylinder would jam and not turn. Take the other rounds out and dry fire, everything worked as advertised. After a lot of swearing, foot stomping and throwing things I saw that the firing pin was not retracting thus hanging up the next round and keeping the cylinder from advancing. Could point the barrel up and the firing pin would retract. Point it down and the firing pin would fall forward.
Tore the gun down, downloaded the parts list from the Taurus site and found the firing pin spring and retaining pin were both missing. Got on the horn to Taurus and ordered the parts and 10 days later they arrived. I put them in and now have a fully operational (and cheap) gun that my wife absolutely loves.
The cost? you ask. Unlike Ruger's free small parts replacements Tuarus charged for the parts. 2 bucks for the parts and four and a quarter for postage. This is my first Taurus and I was very happy with the customer service of the folks in Florida.
