We hit a gun show, over the weekend and did some trading with our TCs with a friend of ours who always has a table. He specializes in TCs and has become a friend of ours over these last few years. We buy and sell back and forth quite a bit.

He's been cutting back a bit as to is personal collection of Encores and Contenders, this year. Last spring, I bought his custom 257 AI Encore pistol. Saturday, I bought another custom Encore of his, this one a rifle, though.

It's an Encore rifle in 250 Savage with a Custom Shop 26" barrel with a 1 in 10 twist (should be a great shooter with the heavier bullets). The action has had a trigger job by a pro and the trigger breaks at about a pound and a half.

The stock is custom all the way, designed specifically to be shot from the bench with its big, wide, flat forearm. (By using an open palm, though, it makes for a very stable shooter from a standing position)

The butt stock is also designed, specifically, to be used with a scope. The standard Encore stocks are a compromise as to comb height, so that a customer can shoot either iron or a scope, but I've always found them to be a little lacking for scope use.

Now, you might think that a rifle with a 26" barrel would be a bit muzzle heavy. it would be on a lot of guns, for sure, but not on an Encore rifle. Since there is no action, even with a 26" barrel, we have a gun that is just under 40"inches in length. The result is a rifle that handles very much like a carbine, with a carbine feel and balance. Hard to put down, too, just like a carbine. For sure, not your average 26" barreled rifle.

Anyway, this gun should make a nice replacement for the Savage 99 in 250 savage that I traded off, last year. In truth I missed the cartridge more than the gun (though the gun was certainly a gem). The 250 Savage is a real sweetheart to shoot and can do anything a 243 can do and more. This custom Encore 250 should be a better shooter than the 99, what with it's faster twist. We'll see, sometime later this spring when I find a suitable scope and get out to the range.

Definitely a looker, I have seen a few Encore pistols in local shops. But have never seen a rifle other than online sale sights. I must say your photos are much better than theirs.
