I've thought about buying a bunch of gallons and putting them in the basement. I could store quite a few down there. I live just a few hundred yards from a huge river, but I wouldn't want to drink out of it. A water purifier would be a good tool to keep around.

Very important, especially again like a katrina emergency. The town water supply is contaminated and gas lines may be broken or electric lines are out so you can't heat it on the stove to purify it.

Thank goodness for 5 gallon jugs and if things get short, remember you can drain the water out of the hot water heater if its not contaminated and use it as well.

I got a 9,000 gal. cistern. Almost went broke last year buying water though! My water hauler, who never worked weekends before worked 7 days a week. We had the driest hottest year in history in this area last year.
Besides if I'm gonna drink water, I want it pulled around by a few Clydesdales first.

Thats the ticket Sheepdog, I keep 25-30 gal. in jugs that I rotate every 6mo.-yr. I put 5-6 drops of bleach per. gal. to keep it fresh. And like Deputy said have another 40gal. in the water heater. I also keep water purification tablets on hand. I'm on city water even out here in the sticks, but my pasifist (Oh we don't believe in guns) neighbors have a well & I have a generator so as long as the ground water isn't contaminated I should be ok for a while.

I also get my water from a well. I have a 15kw gen. that runs my house, including the well....now, if I can just afford the lp gas for the generator....but yes, I do store water for emergencies....we have hurricanes, so we pretty well stay prepared.....

I'm on well water and have an RO that has a 9 gallon tank that will pump dry without electric. If the SHTF I can fill my RV tank with 100 gallons and run the well off the generator. It's a drilled well and we sit on a hill so it's unlikely that high water will bother us other than cutting off electricity. If the water does get that high then we need to get an ark going.

Field expeedant water purier, need cheese clothe and sand and dirt. Any dirt will do. fold cheese clothe at least 4 times so its a should be around 4 to 6 inches squar. need a butck with several holes drilled in it place cheese clothe in butch then put sand on it 4 to 6 inches around 1/2 an oz of bleech per gal of water place dirt on top of sand 6 to 8 inches. Have the rig hanging some kind of way. Then pour the river water slowly in to the water cleaning rigg. Its not going to take good but at least ya won't die from it.
