I finally decided and did it, even though it will be a few days till I pick it up because I'm waiting on a check. But it's official now I am the owner of a used Ruger SBH 4 5/8ths SS 44 mag. It will need a little TLC on some polish is all, and maybe a replacement of those Hogue Ruber Grips that are on them.

I was toying between a new Taurus 4" Tracker in SS and a Ruger (new or used) and the Ruger beat the Taurus price by $120.00  plus I like the fact that I can use stronger or even the longer heavier bullets for the back country here in Montana.

As soon as I get it home I will post pictures.

Here's a pic of my Ruger Super Blackhawk SS in 44 Rem Mag with a Hogue Monogrip on it. Even with the Monogrip, I let the gun roll up in my hands as the gun was designed to. No sense in fighting it...You won't win, especially with full house 44 Mag loads. I know that rubber is ugly on a single action, but function trumps beauty on this back county carry gun.

Just try them full house 305-gr @ 1325 fps loads with them smooth wooden grips... you can follow, but it's gonna hurt.

Beautiful ! I have the 5 1/2", & wish I'd have found a 4 5/8" first. Not that there's anything wrong with the 5 1/2", I just REALLY like the "short barreled Rugers" !
Now don't you make grips for these??????

I had handled several 7.5" SA's and several 6" DA's but I needed a shorter barrel for a more trail worthy carry gun, and the ease of crossdraw while sitting in a saddle is much more appealing than strong side carry. Having a Taurus 2" in .44 Mag is alright for CCW carry but the Taurus cylinder can not chamber the longer .430/431 bullets such as 340-gr WFN like Buffalo Bore loads up, as I can get these from the company that cast them.

The Ruger SBH is by far one of the strongest SA's out there, and I just had to get back into the Ruger family again.

Once I get it home, comes the pondering over what color grip and style to change it to. The grip color has got to offset the SS.

But before I do the change over, I'm gonna fire some heavy weight bullets to see how felt recoil is, as I got to feel those trail bear loads that I will be carrying

I did change the picture above and text. After giving this SBH a workout, I got to tell you that the Hogue monogrip is a hand saver.

Either way, this is just a fun and awesome gun to shoot.
